About Cape Town

Southern Africa offers travellers a unique combination of scenic splendour, unspoilt wilderness, wild life as well as a chance to immerse into 21st centuryAfrican vibe and debate. The Dutch settlement at Table Bay was established in 1653.Its purpose was to supply fresh produce and meat to the fleets of the Dutch East India Company for their voyages between Europe and the Spice Islands East. Before long from a huddle of huts, South Africa’s oldest city came into being.

In the early days, the settlement was known amongst sailors as the Tavern o f the Seas and to this day Cape Town
has maintained this reputation for friendly hospitality.

With its majestic Table Mountain backdrop, Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the
world, rich in history, floral beauty and diversity of marine life and products such as fruit and wine.A harmonious blend of architectural styles reflects the tastes and dictates of the past – and today’s more functional requirements.Between the high-rise office blocks Edwardian and Victorian buildings hare been preserved and many outstanding examples of Cape Dutch architecture can be found. Narrow cobble stone streets and strongly Islamic influence of the Bo-Kaap enhance the cosmopolitan ambience of the city.

Its warm dry Mediterranean climate is a welcome escape from
northern winters. In recent years Cape Town has become one of South Africa’s most sought after tourist destinations largely as a result of the exciting redevelopment of the waterfront.International tourists are the unanimous that it is probably superior to its more famous sister developments in places such as Sydney, San Francisco and Baltimore.Within easy reach of Cape Town are the spectacular beaches, mountains and vineyards of the Western Cape.

Now home to 3 million people, the greater Cape Town area also hosts 4 universities. There is thus a wealth of academic work and debate, a key ingredient for the recent expansion of the conferencing industry in the city.
