In addition to the fees, LCM2009 would like to repeat the feat of a full carbon offset achieved by LCM2007. Believing that it is through open full-cost accounting that we best influence consumption habits, the LCM2009 organising committee has decided with a large majority to make carbon-offsetting mandatory and linked to travel distance, and to use the funds generated to fund a climate change mitigation project in South Africa.
